PURSUING WISDOM

Proverbs 8:6-21 (NLT)

FOUR ELEMENTS THAT GUIDE THE WISE

WE PURSUE WISDOM BY…

  1. Vs.6-7 Pursuing truth. Therefore, a wise person will be able to distinguish truth from lies; they will love the truth and will hate deception.

Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you. Everything I say is right, 7 for I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception.

WE PURSUE WISDOM BY…

  1. Vs. 8-9 Pursuing knowledge. A wise person will give advice from the well of knowledge from pure sources. Notice, we also can gain knowledge from others who are also striving to pursue wisdom. A wise person will mingle with those who have the same desire to grow in wisdom.

My advice is wholesome. There is nothing devious or crooked in it. 9 My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those with knowledge.

WE PURSUE WISDOM BY…

  1. Vs.10-16 Pursuing discernment. A wise person will use the common-sense God gave them to understand what will enhance their lives in the short and long-term phases of their lives. Common-sense says- if you are wise you will understand what is required to make you feel complete. Common-sense also teaches we are to mingle with those who are wise and to run from those who will dull your blade.

Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. 11 For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it. 12 “I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. 13 All who fear the LORD will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.14 Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine. 15 Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. 16 Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments.

WE PURSUE WISDOM BY…

  1. Vs.17-21 Not leaving any of God’s gifts on the field.

A truly wise person will love what wisdom offers: riches and honor, long-lasting wealth and justice. A wise person will understand the wealth offered by wisdom is far greater than any earthly wealth. A person pursues these eternal gifts on the paths of justice and righteousness.

“I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me. 18 I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice. 19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! 20 I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. 21 Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.”
